Mc 8: 11-13

The Pharisees came and began to argue with him, seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him. And he sighed deeply in his spirit and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.” And he left them, got into the boat again, and went to the other side.

What touched my Soul

Well, it’s so human to ask for signs and rely on gestures that mean things. It’s a human need I suppose.

Like Thomas we only believe when we see.

Even in these days we look for signs to guide us, and i’m not thinking about traffic signs.

i’m thinking about the signs we need to guide our life emotionally, financially or any other aspect.

Often, men feel afraid to trust and rest on Jesus arms. trust and have confidence. Men like to believe they are in control. This couldnt be farest from truth. You just need to think about the recent epidemic situation. We are fragile and we are not in control.

Yesterday in one of my prayer moments a deacon friend of mine said: “fear blocks us. Fear dominates us and constraint our choices and our actions”.

In this reading from Marc‘s gospel Jesus seams disapointed and somehow eventually frustrated with the pharisees to the point of saying: “Truly, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation. And he left them, got into the boat again, and went to the other side.”

Jesus get never quits on us, even when he goes “into the boat again“ to the other side. As in the prodigal son parable, Jesus is always happy to embrace us. But we need lose our fears and stop looking for signs and look for Him with faith, kneel and beg for forgiveness.

Let us ask Jesus, true man and true God to help us, weak and sinful men, to increase our unconditional trust in Him and stop being afraid. As psalm 23 say:

” Even though i walk through the valley of the shadow of death, i will not fear no evil, for You are with me”
