John 16:29-33
29His disciples said, "Ah, now you are speaking plainly, not in any figure! 30Now we know that you know all things, and need none to question you; by this we believe that you came from God." 31Jesus answered them, "Do you now believe? 32The hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, every man to his home, and will leave me alone; yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me. 33I have said this to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."
What touched my Soul
"Do you now believe? ...in me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; “
This words from Jesus are amazing.
We will cover in a minute the first phrase although i would like to focus our thoughts in the last sentence: only in Him we will have peace.
Those of us who when through hard times in life, whtever those were, inow this is absolutely true. Only in His arms we find peace. When we look for Him in prayer, when we ask for forgiveness for our faults, when we accept His will and face whatever He wants us to face. Only in His arma we find peace.
if you never felt it, next time you feel stressed, in pain, suffering for whatever reason pray. Offer Him your pain, your suffering, your stress and ask our Lord for forgiveness for al you said and done so far. All the things you have in your heart that bother you. Ask for forgivess. Ask for redemption.
I’m sure you will experince what Jesua tell us in thia gospel: “in me you may have peace”
On the first phrase I would like to recall the words Jesus used with Thomas, that in my view relates pretty well: “ blessed are they that have not seen, and have believed”
Even considering the time the disciples lived and its particular circumstances I find really tough to understand why was so hard to believe to those men that lived and shared the road with Jesus.
today we struggle too. we all have our unbelief moments, but those men lived with Jesus, touched Him, talked to Him. Not being to hard with them, has Jesus never was - on the contrary - i think that when holy spirit came was when they truly recognized the Master. Until then I think they were just expecting a “war/political” leader for Israel.
As I said, I get Jesus had a very radical message, even for ua today in the XXI century, but the spirit came after and bless them they were and are an example of faith to all of us.
