Matthew 1:16, 18-21, 24

Jacob was the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, who is called the Messiah.

Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. Her husband Joseph, being a righteous man and unwilling to expose her to public disgrace, planned to dismiss her quietly. But just when he had resolved to do this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

When Joseph awoke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; he took her as his wife.

What touched my Soul

Joseph like any human and man was not certain of what to think when Mary showed up with a child.

I almost imagine him, a good man, thinking about what to do. Praying for guidance. Then he decided he should do something but he definitely wouldn't want to expose Mary.

What impress me the most in this reading, and really touch my soul, is the imense love Joseph has for Mary.

His love was bigger than his questions and doubts. He didn't want to expose Mary.

God that sees deep into our hearts attended what I believe were Joseph's prayers and sent an angel to explain to him why was Mary with a child. A very special Child.

And we all know were this story ends.

This is really a beautiful love story, isn't it? A love story that we should take out to our relationships.

Today everything is looked at a fast pace.

We live in a fast consumption mode not only in objects but also in relationships. We move quickly from experience to experience, new object to newer object.

We dont seem to have the time, the patience and the will to love the other accepting him/her the way he/she is, with all the qualities but also with the differences.

We, as society, and mainly as Christians need to stop. Get back to the basic principles that the Bible and Jesus give us and re-learn how to love, the Joseph kind of love.

In this day lets thank Joseph for his example of love, not only to Mary but also the inconditional love to Jesus, his adoptive son.

Let us pray to God, by St. Joseph interception, that He grant us the grace of love towards the others, our families, our friends, our colleagues and even the people we for some reason are not particular friends with. That His love reign on Earth.
