Luke 13: 1-9

1There were some present at that very time who told him of the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2And he answered them, "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered thus? 3I tell you, No; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. 4Or those eighteen upon whom the tower in Silo'am fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who dwelt in Jerusalem? 5I tell you, No; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish." 6And he told this parable: "A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. 7And he said to the vinedresser, `Lo, these three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none. Cut it down; why should it use up the ground?' 8And he answered him, `Let it alone, sir, this year also, till I dig about it and put on manure. 9And if it bears fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.'"

What touched my Soul

“...but unless you repent you will all likewise perish."

In other words, if we repent you will live.

Once more Jesus is teaching us that we should repent. This is a common reference across most of the readings in this Lent.

Repent and believe in the word.

This reading turns more enigmatic when Jesus present the parable of the fig tree. Once again there are leasons that we can take from it. Parallelisms between the story of God and our salvation story.

It is interesting to see that God , as the Lord of the land expect to see fruits from the fig trees -us. the tree is not producing any fruit for several years and the landlord wants to cut it down. Although He end up deciding save the tree and give it more time to allow it to mature and give fruits.

This is, in a generous part, what happens to us. We all have our talents, our skills provided by Gods will.

Using them properly it can unlock the production of some good fruit. It’s up to us to put our talents to serve. One thing is becoming clear in this reading, if the tree is not producig God will cut it off.
