Mark 10:17-27

17And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and knelt before him, and asked him, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"18And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. 19You know the commandments: `Do not kill, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.'" 20And he said to him, "Teacher, all these I have observed from my youth." 21And Jesus looking upon him loved him, and said to him, "You lack one thing; go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." 22At that saying his countenance fell, and he went away sorrowful; for he had great possessions. 23And Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How hard it will be for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!"24And the disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said to them again, "Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! 25It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." 26And they were exceedingly astonished, and said to him, "Then who can be saved?" 27Jesus looked at them and said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God."

What touched my Soul

“And they were exceedingly astonished, and said to him, "Then who can be saved?" 27Jesus looked at them and said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God."

It’s not by our merits that we are saved. There is nothing we can do to be saved, but only by the mercy of God. Having said that we may wrongy think why worry about our salvation and follow Jesus teachings and God’s law?

The answer to this question is prety complex and easy at the same time. Lets try to simplify it. Imagine you are a teacher and have two students, one that works really hard and does the best he can to achieve the goal. Other who dont really cares, miss classes and have a bad behaviour in the classroom? Who would you give the best chances and notes?

Not wanting to compare the Salvation with a school environment, the fact is if we follow Gods laws, believe in Jesus Christ, have faith in Him, God in His infinite mercy will look at us with mercy and save our souls. At least thats what Jesus tell us in this gospel, let’s see:

This man followed all that was needed the only thing he was not ready to let go was his fortune. Even though Jesus is not clear if he would be saved or not because it’s said “Jesus looking upon him loved him”. And then say “for all things are possible with God”.

We are all sinners. One way or another we need Gods mercy to be saved. What i would probably say in a very simplistic way (and please forgive me again for this) is we have better odds of being saved if we love our brothers and sisters as ourselves and God above all, than not.
